Nice guide!

Even though I consider myself somewhat experienced it feels good to have some of the basic tactics in "print" and it may also be very helpful to new players. It also reminds me I should utilize the pinch-maneuver during stealth-missions more often and not only in desperate flanking attempts when the bullets already are flying.

I also look forward to additional tips and more advanced tactics!

Okay, i did not read the guide carefully so it might talk bs but there are some things i don't really like.

First thing is that under every picture there is a "Click image for real size" text.
I dunno if it's firefox or something else, but it is really annoying but i don't think it's your fault.

Second thing: The portraits are too big or the text should be next to the portrait, not under it.
Maybe in a different color or fond. That would make it easier to follow imo.

Third thing: Maybe use videos? I dunno if that is possible on this forum but that would be really nice. If you can only link to them it's not that good, watching them right here would be superb. I dunno how you call that but on some forums you can post a youtube vid and watch it right there.

And the last thing (don't take that one serious Very Happy

)

That guy... I remember, many years ago i played JA2 and had him in my squad. Somewhere around Balime or whatever it is called i got a bit angry. He ALLWAYS called me Ace. So i took Magic, made him stand right next to Hitman, said something like "Ok, im gonna klick on you and if you call me Ace...!" In the end he took a nap... with his head all over the grass!

Laha for the images that is a forum thing. It auto-resizes images to 200px wide. So this always alters the image size. Very useful when uploading large screeshots or pics, but can warp and distort images smaller than 200px wide.

@Laha: When i first posted the Pics for this guide the new image resizing feature wasn't present on the forum. If you download it, it should be a bit easier to read.

Why Hitman? A few reasons, he was one of the first characters i ever hired and he has a lot of character to play with. It also helped the "back story" to this guide that he was a teacher on the verge of past being a Merc.

The video idea is good, i could just post a link but would be sometime in the winter if i was to do it. I still have a lot of fun/practical ideas for the Advanced Guide.

i never reload, when one of my mercs stands court martial - that happens quite often - in the case you mentionend he got shot for the very reason shortly behind cambria (that was the first i hired him and he lived long enough to annoy me). in later times i thought it to be less apaling.

but sir, you are a whimsy weakling - if your employees need to be shot shoot them, but it's mere and utter cheating if you revive them

I killed him because he was annoying!
I told him if he now calls me Ace he is dead and as soon as i clicked on him he said "Ace".
But then i felt sorry for that poor old man. Pops just wanna have fun ya know? Razz

Normaly I don't hire any mercs that annoy me, except for Ira, but i don't shot girls. ( At least not the "good" girls ). Buns or whatever her name is will be sold to the Rednecks if she ever makes it in my team. Wink

Great tutorial. I don't know how new players would take it, but since I know the shortcuts and most of the tactical issues, I think the way this information is brought to novices is superb.

The PDF looks nice, but I think it needs improvement. I don't think you can include animated GIFs in PDF, right? Well, I don't know it. But the leapfrog movement could be presented as an animation.
The layout needs some work done. I'm with Laha on this one, the size is good, but I'd put them on the left hand of the text and add some colour.
I myself would have favored cutting the images first to get rid of anything unnecessary and then merging some in a "DO / DON'T" or "PREVIOUSLY / AFTER" way.
The strategy lessons are fine. Backup, close movement, watch your back, don't go into the open... all said. Can't think of more one needs to add.

I love the humour and the whole self-irony and presentation of what you can do wrong. It would be great if you added even more story to it. Not too much, it's meant to be a tutorial after all, but when reading, I loved the connection from one topic to another. Like "We were just explaining how to watch each other's backs and since this has been successful, we're now showing you how to aim at heads." Absolutely great.

So basically all I'm saying is that even though it's no help to me, I loved reading this tutorial and I'd love to read a finished version that's got layout and text boxes and color-coded text and such. Ace.

@Laha: Why is everyone picking on Ira? I like her, because she admits that she's no master at shooting and such and she's no bigshot. She sucks anyway and she usually dies the natural way, helping out as cannon fodder, but she's not too annoying is what I'm saying.
Flo is annoying. She doesn't even have a problem with being married to Rednecks. Any mod that allows selling mercs to San Mona's entertainment industry?
