What a strange place.

BIG SPOILER FOR SECTOR O1 COMING UP:

I entered this sector travelling south down the coastline, just clearing the sectors around Adrian in preparation for the assault.

Sector looked mildly interesting so I gave all the houses a lookover - nothing important. Then I realized two strange things.

First, this place has secret doors blocking access to the two rooms near the westward tip of the coastline. Turn all the switches to green to open these up.

But more important is a small building at the southeastern corner. Access to this building is via a narrow bridge. At the end, you've got the door, with two mines blocking the entrance (so watch out). The building is completely surrounded by water and a layer of impassable rock.
First I thought, heh, what the heck, and sent Trevor in to disarm the mines. No worries, with 100 mech and 98 dex he did so cheerfully for the first mine, but the second was sort of "hidden" behind the door, so that ctrl-click always got me the "Path Blocked" notification - it kept trying to open the door but I only wanted to get to the mine itself to disarm it since it was BLOCKING the door. (So for future map designs, keep mines away from north-facing doors).
Anyhow, upset that I couldn't get to the door, I brought up good old Rosebud to blast some holes into the door with LAW rockets. When the first hit the door, I could hear a scream from inside, and figured "Haha! There must be some NPC inside", but the wall and the door were both surprisingly unhurt! Not a dent! And the mine hasn't exploded either! I shot two more LAWs into the wall, again with the screams, but not a crap for entry.

Bah, I thought, and reloaded the save. This time I handed all the LAWs to Ivan the man (100 mrk, heavy weapons), and blasted the same section with as many LAWs as I had, including a round or two of mortar, before I said, Bleh.

Reloaded the save, only to notice that the flag on the mine had suddenly disappeared! I was thinking, Oh joy, That means the mine hasn't been detected, so I can just run stupid old rosebud over the mine to have it cleared out of the way :diabolical:

But when I hovered over it with the mouse, the open-door graphic wasn't displayed, so I thought "yeah, that's my lucky day", approached the mine with Trev and disarmed it. Alright! Now inside.

So I pick the door leisurely with Trev, and suddenly everything goes red! Thank god for a nice interrupt on Headrock's behalf (IMP) who shot the enemy in the forehead. Where did he come from? He was a civilian in whitish clothes... Why did he attack? The whites, as far as I can remember, are usually Army Recruits or Army Personnel, basically a sort of nasty civilian. So I thought, OK, and looked around. Shot some more guys in the process (Trevor's learning. He's third on the team, but he can already hold his own at times). So I clear the whole building, about three or four rooms, and take a breather to look around and figure out what I've earned from gaining access to this little bunker.

The answer is:
NOTHING.

Not a damn single thing. Not containers, not switches, not even a nice bundle of money. All that work... I just don't know sometimes.

So this brings me to the question (Oh, FINALLY).

What the fudge?!

Did I miss something, or was this made to intentionally frustrate the common scrounger?

Please answer when you find the time. Very Happy
