Apart from jaggedalliance.com having a section ready for JA 3 (but without content currently, of course), thus confirming something is "under construction", you have this announcement from last spring :

bitComposer Games Acquires the License for Jagged Alliance

The regular "promising promises" there. What worries me is the lack of any specificity.
Which can possibly mean the people there had roughly the idea about the game at the time of the post. And which doesn't leave them much time to make a good product. I really hope people won't be served some cheap meal wearing the JA brand name on it.

My thought about this JA2:R is: most likely it will be a flop with only updated graphics, little selection of guns, attachments and equipment, 3 low-budget voice actors for all the AIM&MERC mercenaries, stupid AI, little configuration, thousand of stability patches after the game is released etc., wrapped in a shiny cardboard box worth 24.99 pounds with a big sticker "now in 3D!"...

As MikeThePro said, I also don't belive in "promising promises".

And in meantime, Headrock will release many new versions of HAM, the 1.13 mod team will add to the SVN trunk the uber combo STOMPAIMNASIoV, new CTH system, with redone maps size 2000x2000 grids AND Bio's new logical bodytypes. And we will be still playing the good old JA2 for another 11 years Razz

The game looks nice, except for the merc-bar, which looks like pure crap. The rest remains to be seen...

Why not encourage them, rather than prematurely ejacul--- I mean, prematurely condemn the publishers/developers when the game (or even a demo for that matter) hasn't been released yet?

Hold the criticism for when there's something to criticize, yeesh...

In the meantime, the idea of letting bitComposer Games know what we'd like to have in Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded might be the best way to go (checking out the information I can find on their websites, it seems they did quite a bit of research into the Jagged Alliance series), as they certainly already know about us.

My wishlist for Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded is huge, but I can certainly narrow it down to some features I personally would need to see in the game before I even thought about buying a copy of Jagged Alliance 3 when it's released. Those are:

  • Jagged Alliance 2
  • Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business
  • Cross-platform (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X)
  • Multiplayer (Co-operative, deathmatch, etc.)
  • Modular Modifications Toolset (Maps, Campaigns, Guns, Characters, etc.)
  • Decent/Modern Visuals/Graphics
  • Scalable (high) resolutions

In my humble opinion, nothing else is really needed because the mod-tools should allow the community to make the more subtle improvements they'd like to see on a per-mod basis (maybe even having a community gun-pack, or map-pack, etc. that anyone can add to their individual mod, or something of the sort).

Oh jesus...

"no more areas in which you are running about pointlessly and meet enemies only by chance"

... does this mean the enemy doesn't patrol or attack?

I...

I'm speechless.

Hi, finally registered here, after a year or two just reading these forums and playing the awesome mods the community of awesomest game has made!

So, there was an old article http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/27574/BitComposer_Releasing_Jagged_Alliance_3_In_2011.php

didnt believe that I would join the JA3 optimist camp someday, but at least there is a REAL possibility to see it someday soon. And I dont judge before I've played..

This is my first post, although I have been a big fan of JA2 for almost 10 years and have been playing mods from here for about 4 years.

I'm happy that someone is trying to rebuild JA2 game but also I am scared that maybe they will not be able to capture the same magic.

I would be the happiest if they don't change the game, just add a completely new scenario and completely new villains. So far, modders have been able to write over the script of original JA2, although they were brilliant, they didn't have enough of money, people, actors and animators to make it perfect as if it was made by professionals.
Discovering a completely new complex story in a old school way (I'm just dreaming).

Yes, we have the same concern. The guys on the pit offered our help (for free) just so they capture the same magic in their new game. Some of us talked to Bitcomposer people and gave them lots of feedback. In the end it is up to them what they want to do though.

Mercs are top left corner bringing the UI in line with things like WoW and other RPG's. Also looks like they are minimising impact on screen space too, things I've been wanting to do for years, but haven't the coding knowledge to implement Wink

Dunno, maybe I'm a bit conservative, but I like the mercbar(hope I ain't the only one)-static, compact and one gets used to it fast.
It's just that somehow I think saving screen space may reduce the functionality of the inventory panel(granting one pops up after clicking the designated merc's head)because when that one pops up it'll block the view to vital areas almost at the center of the screen.

I think the side mercbar is great. We're all utilising widescreen monitors now, so let's use the space!

My overall reaction to the development of Reloaded is positive. It was always the danger with JA3 that the game would be a flop and we would forever sulk about what could have been. Reloaded tests the waters of 3d environments, etc... on a game we already love. If it's a flop we can just go back to JA2 and 1.13. Case in point, I still can't get over the abomination that was Ultima IX. If only they tried a 3d remake of Ultima VII first!
